The water levels here on Kentucky Lake have been at the 354.8 mark for most of the week. The surface temperatures are in the upper 50’s to the lower 60’s.
Last week was pretty tuff for just about everyone that tried to catch crappie. That is until it came time for the Crappieusa weigh in. Then just about everyone that fished in the Classic, weighed in a full limit of 7.
First place in the semi-pro division went to the most well known team in crappie fishing. Ronnie Capps and Steve Coleman won with a two day total weight of 20.89 pounds. They won a fully rigged Ranger V118c boat, 150 hp Evenrud engine, $500 ranger bonus, and a $500 Southern Pro bonus. They were fishing 15 feet of water around big stumps in the Blood River area of KY Lake using lime & chart jigs tipped with minnows..
Second place went to the team of Henry and Joe Hailey from Carmi IL. They had 19.58 pounds. They won $5000 for second place plus another $2000 for winning the points championship. They were fishing Barkly Lake in 9 to 11 feet of water using southern pro green and chart jigs tipped with crappie nibbles.
3rd place went to the team of Freeman and Bridges. They were also fishing Barkly Lake and had 19.17 pounds. They were using southern pro orange/white/ and pink tubes and won $2000.
1st place in the Armature division went to the West TN team of Bill Rhodes and Greg Mathina. They had 19.49 pounds and won a fully rigged Ranger V117c boat with a 90 hp Evenrud. They were fishing in 10 to 12 feet of water using minnows to catch their fish.
The teams of Clark & Mathina and Parker and Damon Lowe tied for 2nd place. Both teams won $2250. Both teams were fishing in 12 to 15 feet of water to catch their fish.
