• Kentucky Lake Big Sandy Fishing Report Oct. 19, 2013

Hi folks. Welcome to Richard Williams Outdoors.

The water levels here on Kentucky Lake are at 354.7. And are not supposed to change. The surface temperatures are still running in the upper 60’s to the lower 70’s.

The crappie fishing this week has been a little slow. Even for the shallow water fishermen, the fish catching has not been the best it has ever been. There have been a few folks that have put a fish or two in the boat. But it’s been pretty slow for most of us.

A lot of people go fishing this time of year because the fishing is usually pretty good. But most of all, its hunting season and usually there are not very many people on the lake. That won’t be true for next week. In fact, some places on the lake might get a little crowded because of the Crappieusa’s National Championship Tournament scheduled for next weekend. Starting this weekend, there will be boats from several different states that will be here prefishing for the tournament. Around 200 or more boats will be here all week trying to find the biggest crappie that Kentucky Lake has to offer. These folks are the best of the best crappie anglers from all across the nation. The competition days are next Friday and Saturday. And the weigh in will be at the Paris Landing boat launching area. The folks fishing in this tournament can fish until 3:00 in the afternoon and they have to be in line with their fish by 4:00. They are allowed to weigh in 7 of their biggest fish. The weather is supposed to be good all next week. So the fishing should be pretty good as well.

And don’t forget about the kids fishing rodeo next Saturday morning at the same place as the weigh in. The kids fishing rodeo is free to all kids ages 12 and under. Every kid that registers will get a prize, plus their names will go into a drawing for several scholarships that will be given away at the awards banquet that night. Bring as many kids as you can to give them a chance to win a scholarship. For more information, go www.crappieusa.com

Well that’s all the time we have for this week.
    See-ya on the water folks.
    Thanks for listening.

I sure would love to be there next week. My mother in law used to live over by Bucannan(SP) Resort. I do like that area.
