• Big Sandy River Kentucky Lake fishing report for October 12,2013

Hi folks. Welcome to Richard Williams Outdoors.

The water levels here on Kentucky Lake are at 355.1. The surface temperatures are running in the upper 60’s to the lower 70’s.
With the cooler water temperatures, the bait fish have moved into very shallow water. I have talked with a lot of people that have not had very much luck catching crappie this week. However, I did talk with a couple guys that have caught their limit of 60 three days in a row. But they were fishing a little differently than most of us do. They were fishing in one and a half to three feet of water using a southern pro red and chartreuse triple tip jig tipped with crappie nibbles with a bobber about a foot or so above the jig. They positioned their boat quite a ways away from the structure and were casting past it. They then reeled in until the bait was sitting on top of the bed. And the fish would take the bait almost every time.
My ole buddy Jim the ledgend in his own mind Perry had some successful catfish outings this week fishing in 40 to 43 feet of water out on the Tennessee River.
Crappieusa is having their National Championship Tournament in two weeks right here at Paris Landing. The competition days are Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th. The weigh in will be at the Paris Landing Marina boat launching area. The anglers can fish until 3:00 and have to be in the weigh in line with their fish by 4:00. And don’t forget about the kids fishing rodeo that Saturday morning the 26th. It is free to all kids 12 years old and younger. All the kids will get a prize plus their names will be put into a drawing for several scholarships that will be drawn that night at the Awards Banquet.
Registration for the kids will start at 8:00 that morning and they can fish from 9:00 until 11:00. Bring as many kids as you can to give them a chance to win one of the scholarships. For more info about this you can go to Crappie USA :: America's Premier National Crappie Fishing Tournament Organization.

Well that’s all the time we have for this week.
    See-ya on the water folks.
    Thanks for listening.
