My Brother lives in Huntsville, AL and we rarely get to fish together. I has sent him the link to the video we did with KicknBass and he sent me a message that he was off for a few days and was coming home to fish with me and my Dad. We set it up for Sat but were able to get on the water for a couple of hours Friday afternoon.
I was getting worried as the week went on that the Bandit bite was about over. The reports I was hearing was the crappie were pretty slow for trollers. Seeing the post here that Taz was on fish spider rigging made me think the fish would be where I could get to them with cranks. The weather looked favorable for both days so I thought we would give it a try. We found a few fish Friday and ended up with 7 good keepers along with some yellows and a couple of decent channel cats. Both my Brother and Dad said let's just troll Bandits Sat even thought I was seriously considering getting my longline gear out.
We got on the water at sun-up and caught a few smallish keepers but the southeast wind was whipping the lake up pretty good. I figured it would be a good test for my new batteries so we hung with it. We found some fish real tight to drops while others were scattered in the middle of the secondary channel. We would hit a spot and catch 3-4 GOOD keepers in a few yards then go for quite a while with none. After 4 hours, we had a good box full of above average keepers and since I was running the Terrova, taking fish off hooks and retying break-off and tangles, I lost count so we had zero idea how many we had in the box.
Once we got the fish out for a count and some pics, we weighed the 30 keepers we had and ended up with 35 pounds for 30 fish. We had some yellows and one huge female redear that hit a Bandit and was bleeding bad when I got her unhooked. Most here know I hate to kill a female redear but we kept her since we figured she was not going to live the hooking.
This ended up being one of the best days I've had crappie fishing with my Dad and by far with my Brother. After we cleaned both days catch, we had 9 quart bags of fillets.
I've got to take a buddy and a friend of his from Michigan on Sunday. Hopefully the Bandit bite will last at least one more day.
