Let me start w/ a little background about myself since this is my first post on crappie.com. I'm 28, married w/ a 2 yr. old little boy & another boy on the way. I have more hobbies then time & the last thing that I needed was something new to throw into the mix. Well I bought a boat back in the winter & spent a couple of months fixing it up just to have the option take the family on the water & fish a little as the kids get older. I have fished w/ friends some over the years but always found golf & hunting to be more of my passions since I wasn't able to go fishing when & where I wanted pre-boat.
Shortly after getting my boat, a buddy told me to check out crappie.com & I have enjoyed reading stories (some true & some questionable ), tips & techniques for a few months now. From what I have read, this spring wasn't the best measure of what crappie fishing is supposed to be like in April (I was busy chasin' those long beards anyways) but I have stuck it out & I'm starting to catch more & bigger fish. Tack on a couple of trips to Monk's & I'm starting to feel like a hardcore crappie fisherman. The picture below is from yesterday afternoon vertically jigging 1/16 jig & firetiger curlytail over structure in 10' - 20' water. The white bass starting busting shad all around the boat & caught these 11 in about 3 minutes on a beetlespin that I had on a backup rod. That was a lot of fun.
Not a lot of size but definitely not a bad day for a newbie trying to catch fish & keep a 2 yr. old happy at the same time. To make a long story short, the grass isn't getting cut quite as often as it used to & my clubs are starting to collect dust & I blame it all on you, crappie.com. In all seriousness, I really appreciate all the info. that I get from you guys.
