I just wanted to get some pictures out quick. I'm still thawing out from the extreme cold and snow fall. Regrettably, for Michigan Crappie Camp this was par for the course. At least it has been the last couple years. Last year we had a blow out with 40-50 mile an hour winds. The year before we had frost. And this year was the blizzard.
Here are the pics.
Well the Friday Night Liars club gathering started off good, but it was a little cold. Good thing we had a big camp fire blazing.
We had some Bacon Wrapped Walleye (above), Venison Sausage, Pumpkin Bread and Cinnamon Bread, and lots more. The Bacon wrapped walleye was awesome. Well, anything wrapped in bacon usually is!
Hermin had a fan club (above) telling him exactly how to catch fish. And he did catch fish. I think he caught three right there in front of us (below) within about an hour. Luckily for him he had our help screaming out to him exactly what to do! lol
Here are some of the members coming through the canals to go fishing on Saturday Morning. Take note of the 12 ft pudgy little boat Crappie1 and Crappie2 are in. I did a double take on it when I first seen it. It's got high sides and can really handle some rough water according to Larry. RatCityHooker brought it for Crappie 1/2 to use as their boat was laid up and in the shop. How generous is that of Larry.
Wicklundrh and Vettes23. Two very funny guys. Great meeting you all.
Yankee Doodler and his lovely wife Carol.
Crappie 1 and Crappie 2. Great seeing you all again.
Bro in law and Nephews.
I know I left many members pics out. I apologize for that. There were a few more pics I took but they did not come out well. Even these don't seem to have all that good a focus. Probably too cold for the electronics even!
The rain started and the cold got colder! This combo seemed to scare most off the lake. I was out fishing with Doodler and I know we got off early.
Simultaneous to our event was a Crappie Benefit called “Catchin' Crappie to Cure Cancer”. To show support many of the members participated in that event as well. They sold shirts that said “I Have A Crappie Attitude About Cancer”. We met some nice folks there, but we could see the weather turning. It started to snow, and I don't mean just a little, it came down big time. These pictures don't do it justice.
It just got colder and windier. I ended up not getting much sleep with the wind howling against my tent so first thing in Sunday morning I packed up my wet frozen tent into the back seat and drove home. It still was a very fun event. I met some old friends and made some new ones. I even got two Nephews and my brother in law to come. This was their first Crappie Camp, and they really seemed to enjoy it in spite of the weather.
Next year I'm renting a cabin!
