• Northern Michigan springtime crappie - by Slabsrus

Today what I'm going is slip into a little bay that averages two feet of water or less and try to get me some crappies. With the water being so shallow and clear I will be using a clear bobber to suspend a 1/64 ounce jig tipped with a chartreuse Berkley Gulp Fish Fry. My first bait presentation is eaten, and though the bluegill on the hook is just a little bugger, it look like the start to another great day in my kayak.

I have yet to try a bobber in shallows, with a jig. Usually it's a plain minnow and bobber in the shallows.

Frank, was that this year? Looked like a lot of ice on the lake yesterday.

No, that was definitely not this year, but it won't be long. I now have open water in front of my house. By mid next week I will be able to paddle to a couple of my very early spots.

Good video. Reminds me of my hours spent in canoes in Central Florida small lakes and ponds. Had some exceptional days. Thanks for the visit.

A jig under the clear bobber trick does work very well in shallow waters. Thanks for sharing.
