The “Get Together” at Lake Blackshear was a wonderful event. With around 50 in attendance, a great time seemed to have been had by all.
I woke up early this cold day to fish with Up2Specks and Catch Fillet. But not only were we going to have three people in the boat, we were going to have two dogs in the boat too. This was going to be a crazy day, I could just tell.
Thankfully Up2Specks has a nice large Walleye style Skeeter. There was plenty of room for the three people, but Abbey spent most of the time on my lap. In part because she was cold and wanted warmth, but also in part to keep clear of the "Energizer Bunny" named Raven.
Up2specks has a 5 month old Black Lab and German Short Haired Pointer mix. According to the Labs I've met, they can be mellow or full of energy, but the Short Haired Pointers I know are all nothing but bundles of energy. Raven showed his Short Haired Pointer side on the boat, and Abbey knew to stay out of the way, or to at least try to.
They actually got along very well. Raven would get excited, think Abbey was nothing but a new toy, and Abbey would put him in his place with a snap or a growl. There was never any real biting but Abbey got her point across when needed. Once some of the excitement wore off, they stood side by side, nose to nose, and had no problem at all. It was actually very interesting to watch Raven get taught doggie socialization skills. Up2 tells me Abbey is the first other dog Raven has been around since he got him.
I fished with Up2 the day before. Long lining in some coves and also out on the main lake. We did not do very well, but we marked an absolute ton of fish. Today we thought we'd tight line minnows in a few of the spots where we had seen most of the fish the day before. We thought we'd present live minnows right in front of their faces, but even then they were tight lipped. We only caught a couple, but we had fun.
We quit early because I had some crappie.com business on the website to take care of, plus the fish were not exactly jumping in the boat. The event was starting up soon anyway.
The event started off with a bang when I met JimmyS for the first time. I had spoke with him before and I've know him for a long time. But when he's been to the Georgia events, I have not been, and when I've made it, he was not there. This time the stars lined up, and we were finally able to meet each other in person.
It was an honor to meet Jimmy. He really knows how to get the members going. Here
“Saseigh Crappie” is very excited to greet Jimmy.
Catch Fillet showing me where the food line will begin.
Abbey loved Speckchaser. I think she really wanted some of that great Peanut Butter Pie he made and brought. And no, I beg all of you, please don't feed Abbey Peanuts. Don't ask me why!
Up2Specks and Abbey's new friend Raven. Thanks for taking us fishing Doug. It was a real pleasure.
Detailman was recruited to do the cooking for us.
The food was great, thanks to each and every one of you that made and brought goodies.
After we ate the raffles began. The raffles were stacked somehow. "rctsr" won every time, really. Ask someone there if you don't believe me. He is a standup guy though. After winning like three times he stopped accepting prizes. Seriously, he must have won 10 times all said and done.
Ragfly Jig Man vowed to have his beard cut off in an effort to raise money for the “Member In Need Fund”. As a finale he asked if anyone would make a donation of $100 for him to shave his head. I thought to myself, I'd give $100 to the fund to see him get his head shaved, so I did.
He wasn't liking it at first.
Ten pounds lighter now.

After the event, this is what I got to come home to. I should have stayed down South. The temps here are supposed to be freezing for another week yet. I'm thinking about going ice fishing, and it's Springtime already!
