• Boat ladder on aluminum boat

Finished installing a ladder on my 1860 mod V boat. I'm now old enough to admit that I end up in the water somehow I'm not getting back in the boat out in the open water. I've tested using the ladder in the garage. On the water test will have to wait for summertime. All the water around here is frozen right now.

In the stowed position it sticks up above the transom a couple of inches, just about the same height as the sides of the boat. I don't think it will interfere with fishing off the back.

Showing the distance from the transom, about 4 inches at the mounting bracket. The orange blocks are tree felling wedges for spacers, with the reverse angle of the transom I wanted some kind of spacer to angle the ladder away from the transom more when the ladder was deployed. When first installed without the spacer the ladder was pretty much strait up and down. I think that would make it harder to actually use if I needed to.

Added a handle for something to grab onto when in the water. Testing in the garge it's not needed as standing there you can easily just use the transom. Will need to test on the water to see if it actually helps.

Ladder deployed it's a four step model, sitting on the trailer the last step actually hits the garage floor, that puts it about 27 inches below the waterline. All the mounting hardware is above the waterline.

This is the model I bought, I didn't actually buy it from amazon, it's just the easiest to link to. I liked the way the mounting bracket keep the ladder from swinging into the transom.

A great project and story. For many of us as we grow older IF we were unfortunate to end up in the water little chance we would be able to pull ourselves back into boat. Thanks for this.
