Wife and I hit Bald Knob Lake at about 11:30 this morning. No surprise we had entire lake to ourselves. While the temps were low 50’s the north wind made for a little bit of a bite. While I did spend more time fishing than last time the trip was still a familiarization with the trolling motor. I did catch 3 small fish so the boat is officially slimed. I also marked about a dozen bluegill/shell cracker beds from this past summer. The bigger bluegill is showing some good genes with the girth. I also found tons of crappie but couldn’t buy a bite from them. The lake is known for shell cracker and crappie. Had my Fine Tail Banshee with a Ballistic FW 1000 reel spooled with the Varivas ES2 Ester line. Lure was a Bison Trout Magnet on a Flow Drive 1.5 gram jig head. The fish came out of 17 feet of water on the bottom. It felt good just to catch these small fish. Did a lot of trolling motor testing. Of course it is only 2 trips but I’m in love with the Quest Ulterra. The wife got to see the eagles again today so she was happy also. She also backed the vehicle down for me. I could get used to that?. Here is one shot of 100’s of crappie. I will go out on decent weather days trying to learn the lake more and concentrate on fishing more.
