My Morning was taken , so after lunch , in spite of the gusty winds at 20+ and a steady 10mph wind, it was sunny and 70 in November. I needed to go fishing.
I took a somewhat domestic combo today , one of my 6’6” St Croix Triumph light action rods paired with a 21 Daiwa Legalis LT 1000d . I swapped handles with a pre LT Fuego 2500 that had a round shaped power handle in red . Made a Patriotic color scheme of sorts .
The 21 Legalis are smooth winding low inertia reels already and the power handle made it like it had no resistance at all . Loaded with 2# Floroclear .
This was a casting experiment with my tungsten bead jigs and streamer/jigs .
I started out fishing with a size 10 streamer hook and a 4.65mm black nickeled tungsten bead in dark olive .
I hooked a small largemouth on the second cast .
BTW , with this combo I was casting 15-20’ farther than I have before . Even with the wind.
I couldn’t keep green fish away from my jig at first . My first four out of five fish caught were small largemouths from 10-12” . Fun size . I caught five bass total
I also caught five bluegills and three shellcrackers . Most were on a smaller size 12 jig hook and a 3.8mm copper Tungsten bead in olive . But under a round 3/4 weighted foam float .
I switched over to a float rig to be able to deal with the wind a little better .
I did catch one small bluegill on a mini trout magnet under a float , but the rabbit fur , chenille jig drew more hits .
I only got to fish by the walking track bridge . The other side of the pond was occupied by a man and his young son . Besides I could see , that side was still covered up in leaves and pinestraw on the water’s surface.
Fun afternoon.
I spent about a half hour watching this guy this morning taking a break next to my driveway.
