• Back to the sweet side.

I got some news I could’ve lived without hearing a while longer last night. Tom and I were drivers for the same company when we met about 15 years ago. While he and I have both had our bouts with ill health I thought he was doing pretty good. Without the details I’ll tell you that he was called home the 7th of last month and I was just notified. The lag isn’t surprising as he now lived in Ecuador having retired and set up there. Hit me kind of hard, he was a good friend and an all around good man. His health hadn’t been great and in normal style for him he didn’t speak of it. I don’t have many friends and losing this one is going to take some adjustment. So with my head out of sorts and my queen out of town I needed to get back in the right frame of mind. Water time was just the ticket.

I called Nino and he was all over the idea. 64* this morning and it was 10 before we dropped in. First area got us a couple of crappie but got real slow after that. Made a move and things started looking up. The wind was about 10 out of the northwest and we played hide from the wind as best we could. The fish cooperated just fine and I’ll say that a couple of real good dinners are still there waiting for you cuz I forgot the cooler. Started thinking about heading home and within 15’ five rods go down and the drag started buzzin like so many bees. Hybrids! Haven’t gotten these in a minute. We had one tangled line break and the other four stuck around to be famous before going back where they came from. Monumental tangles got fixed and back in business and a few crappies later, here we go for round two. Once again five rods down and four landed. A fish induced Chinese fire drill, it would have been fun to watch on video later. And these were no babies. One was really stout and didn’t want to see me at all.I asked the time and was told it was after three so we started toward the ramp. This was just what I needed to clear my head some. Nino was like a kid at Christmas with the stripers, just a little excited. good fun all around and hardly another boat out today. Here’s the pics, thanks for coming along. Til next time around……Skeet.

Skeet, glad y'all had fun fishing to distract you. A Couple of "Fish Models" you two are. Looked like a big lake y'all were fishing on. We are going to The Rez next week, I have not been all summer due to the heat.

I can relate to what you are going thru. It hurts. Great catch. Especially that last crappie you show. Never seen one with a black stripe that wide. Thanks for posting.
