• Found a few last night

We had a simply glorious summer day here yesterday and I knew I was going fishing after work, no matter the wind situation. I loaded the boat and gear and was literally walking out the door when the phone rang. It was fishing buddy WC870 asking me if I wanted to go fishing! Heck, yea I'll go.....so I unloaded all my gear and put the boat away and headed off the meet up with him at the pond. We got launched in his boat and set up about 5:40 in very windy conditions; air temp at waters edge was 73 and I think I saw 77 degrees on his sonar unit. We anchored up for a short time along the weed edge where I managed to lose 2 nice fish, one in the weeds and another right at boat side when he made a run underneath and I reeled him in too close to the tip for netting. I think they were both bass. A nice perch was the first fish into the cooler.
We'd soon pull the anchor and try a drift across the basin Walt and Rich style but got blanked. We marked fish but no strikes. We went to casting the weed edge where I'd bring in the first crappie of the night, a nice 12"er, followed quickly by another perch.

I managed a couple more nice crappie over the next hour but fish in general were hard to come by.

We fought the wind all night, both with boat control and casting our light jigs. My partner had his hands full up front with the trolling motor, doing his best to keep us in position to work the edges as we got blown along. The wind wouldn't really begin to ease off until about 7:30 but when it did, it smoothed out nicely and we were able to finish our trip under better conditions.
870 had a slow night as well, finding some nice 'gills and some very nice bass, like this 16" strong fighter. We'd both seen the splash and swirl of this guy and when we got close enough, he tossed his lure over (I think it was a Roadrunner, his new favorite lure!) and BAM, fish on! Took him down in to and through the weeds but 870 fought him well and brought it in.

He'd also put a couple of crappie in to the cooler over the course of our trip so he had perhaps 8 or so fish to clean last night. We called it a night at 8:25 with darkness falling quickly. Days are definitely getting shorter.
