The girlfriend and I had some time to kill the other evening, so we decided to do a little long line trolling for crappie on Jordan. I wasn’t expecting much, as another fisherman at the ramp said that he and his buddy had been fishing for 5 hours with livescope and only managed to catch one short crappie.
Launched from Fearrington, got all the rods out, and was hooked up inside of 5 minutes. I couldn’t really tell the size of the fish because it got hooked on a fairly stout rod, but once I got it close to my kayak, I initially thought it was a bass. Then I got a better look at it and realize it was a giant crappie!
I missed swiping at it a few times with the net and finally got it in the third attempt. Afterwards, I was shaking a bit from the excitement, lol. It was 15.25”, beating my previous PB (also from Jordan) by 0.25”. I managed to get it all on video, too (link below)
