• Almost didn’t go

But I’m glad I did. Spoke with NiNo this morning about 6:30 and I was supposed to shoot some clays. I needed to see him for a brief minute while he was ramp bound, and I got weak and postponed the clays til next weekend. Low to mid 50’s when I dropped in with a light breeze and a 3 hour window before the predicted rain. Glad I grabbed the rain jacket to break the wind as I climbed out of the truck. Motored out and found him and I continued to troll north into the wind. Here and there as the sun rose some we found a few here and there but about 8:30 they started getting turned on. I got several that were 3/4 lb or better but I was only keeping 4 or 5 so with the bite being active I wasn’t in a hurry to start collecting just yet. I put some water in the cooler and put a couple of those 3/4 in the box just to get things going, but they were culled after a while. Now the wind had gotten a bit stiffer and had a cold bite to it and I was thinking of packing up. Not too long after that the wind started laying down and lost its bite, and the temps got downright comfy. As all this was going on the bite stayed steady and got better here and there with two and sometimes three rods loading up within seconds of each other. I got the big fish that later weighed in at a pound and twelve ounces in one of those flurries, and he just didn’t want to come meet me. I culled the small ones up to about a pound or better each and quit keeping fish. Nino and I stayed close enough to holler back and forth, and he was doing real good also. I saw the new yellow fiberglass rod bent down a lot this morning. Both of us were throwing back good keeper fish, I’m sure I put back a limit for someone else to come and get. He was excited saying that he’d remember this mostly overcast day for a long time, I’m sure he released at least 30 and kept 10, and they weren’t all the biggest he caught. My final take was five with my needs being met. They’re going with my wife to a friend in Coral Gables. An excellent day and at the ramp taking pics at noon, four hours after I started. Enjoy the pics, we enjoyed the morning. Til I see you out, waving hello……Skeet

Wow, the colors on the big Male is almost black. Enjoyed your post, a day missed fishing is a day of fishing you can't get back. I shot a lot of Clays, was a obsession, but learned from that to leave the competition behind and enjoy Crappie fishing relishing it in the moment. I like your style my friend.
