It was a cold and early start of 3 hours of fishing with Gary aka Biofisher. Barely after sunup, but there was no wind at all until just before we stopped at 11 am. Gary started us off by catching the smallest Drum that I have ever seen. He threw it back before I could get my camera out for a pic, it was 4-6” long. Grin. He was Drumking today.
We found that big school of crappie right off the bat, but slow biting doesn’t even begin to describe how slow the bite was. We did manage 4 keepers in the 11.5” range. All came from 25 to 30 feet of water and BG baby Shads were all that the fish would bite except for two short crappie that I caught on 1.5” Slab Hunter. I did throw a crappie magnet a little without any success.
The water was slightly stained and it was cold but we dressed for the occasion and never suffered at all. Water temp was 49 degrees and water flow was 45,000 cfs. We had about 1/2 dozen short crappie and Gary caught a small bass just before we stopped fishing. I wish that the bite had been better as Gary only gets a rare day off from his teaching job at Central High School where he is a biology teacher.
