• Tribute to Ricky Smith

There are some people who are real assets to society. They give and give and give to people. Such was Ricky Smith or as some of us knew him as "Luvs to fish". Rick's mother said something to me that touched my heart. She said, "He was my first born, he made me a mother." Rick was the type of guy who liked to make others shine. Ricks wife, Bonnie, also known as "Mrs Luvs to fish" donated all his fishing gear to be given away at the gathering. She said what better way to honor him that to let his tackle continue to catch fish? I agree. Rick was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in the Summer of 2021 and departed this earth in January, 2022. Rick's desire was for his remains to be placed in Lake D'Arbonne where he loved to fish. We honored that desire on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 3:00 P.M. at our Crappie.com Gathering. The Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:6, "my departure is at hand." That word "departure" is an interesting word. It means to take down a tent, unyoke from a burden and pull up the anchor before setting sail. You see Paul was headed somewhere else when he left this earth. Rick did the same thing on January 30, 2022. He laid down his tent of a body, unyoked from the burden of cancer, and pulled up his anchor and departed for the other side. And while we wept and said, "There he goes" on the other side they said, "Here he comes!"

A beautiful tribute Brother Warren! I was one of the fortunate ones that called Rick a friend. I just talked to his lovely bride Bonnie this morning and thanked her for sending me one of his fishing rods! Wasn't sure if I was ever gonnna fish with it but your words about people continuing to catch fish on his tackle makes me think that I should, in honor of Mr. Rick (Luvs 2 fish). Thanks

Made me pause when I read this. I was privileged to have met both Rick and Bonnie when I had the opportunity to travel to Louisiana from Michigan and attend the D'Arbonne gathering a few years back. They were one of the first to recognize us "Northerners" on the water that weekend. What a wonderful tribute!!

Always great that one of ours was celebrated when the darbonne clan got together and shared memories with his wife. Condolences to his friends and family. Sounds like a good man.
