• River Ketchn 101 from the bank

Have not pursued the crappie from the bank on the might Trinity river in downtown Ft. worth for a few years with any luck at all.
Pretty much gave up on them as they seemed to have gone missing and never did return. Not sure why, who or what the reason was it went from terribly good in several locations to nada in all of them.
So fast forward to bored and on my lunch break and thought ,what the heck they might be biting, and down the slippery steep bank I went . I did not have the rod of choice for it ,but knew full well, one in my back seat could make the long casts with a small wood clip on float.
Set it at about 6 feet deep and began the arduous task of trying to figure out the depth of the fish "if" they were there and what set of columns they "might" be on as well.
Well I was rewarded within a take a few casts into this excursion and from there it is just a bit of fine tuning and the show began! Fish on some columns ran on the small side and fish on others not so much.
So there I stood with my less than stiff enough rod for the task of setting the hook like I was in the bassmasters and losing quite a few on the whimpy hook sets and slack lines caused in the light wind and noodle rod in hand.
The grand news is most took the jig in the mouth pretty deep and lots made it to the bank .The best depth seemed to be about 7 foot and all the fish were within 12 inches of the bridge columns, they would tick it lightly and VERY slowly take it down , even the channel cat and the 2 bass took it in this same fashion.
Lost my white jig to a bass I "was" holding as it slipped and fell from my hand and broke the line as it landed on the bank and off it went ....
Only had 3 jigs and 3 floats with me (small tackle box syndrome) and tied on an orange one in the same weight and went back at them with the same results . 1/32 handties under a fixed balsa wood clip on pencil float was the way to go.
KABOOM is the word , at 21 crappie ,2 bass and one kitty fish later .....

KABOOM! It’s always good when a body of water recovers its fish population. Glad you found them and caught them. Good pics and fish. Thanks for sharing
