Chickamauga

Got out for a couple of hours with my daughter. Talking with the guys that were pulling out, it didn't sound too promising but my daughter wanted to get out on the water. The wake boats were running around and prevented us from fishing the normal spots so I picked a new spot to try.

I fished the area with some different colors and wasn't getting anything and the wind was strong so i felt I was missing fish on the 1/32 and 1/24 oz jig heads. I was using rods with mono and fluorocarbon. So switched to my confidence bait of a bison trout magnet on a 1/16 litewire black jig head and switched to a tcb rod with 2.3 ester line from varivas. What a difference that made. In 10 minutes I had landed two legal crappie and three short crappie and four small bluegills.

My daughter was loosing interest so we went to shore and let her run around for a bit and throw some rocks for 20 minutes. We get back in the boat and fish another bank with only a few short fish and her saying she was cold and wanted to go home. I talked her into moving to a sunny spot and getting her rod out to fish for a bit as she had ate all of the snacks I had packed by this point. Get her pole in the water and immediately her bobber is going under and she missed the fish. Reel the pole back in and put another crappie nibble on and cast it back out.

While watching her bobber I cast to a blow down and something hammered my jig. I was thinking it was a drum at first and then it started to make a run and jumped out of the water. It was a nice largemouth. I fought it for about 10 minutes with it making quite a few runs. I just knew the leader knot was going to break but it held up! Finally got it close to the boat and my daughter landed it. I grab the golden rule and scale and it's 19.5" long and 4.25 lbs. An unreal fight on an UL rod, ester line and a #6 lightwire hook.

Few minutes later I am fishing another blow down and get another largemouth that felt good. I give the rod to my daughter and let her fight it for a couple of minutes and she gives me the pole back. After about a five minute fight it gets next to the boat and we land it. It's 17.5" and 3.1 lbs.

End of the day we ended up with two legal largemouth, two legal crappie and two yellow bass. We had 6 short bass, 13 short crappie and probably 20 bluegill. It was a epic evening on the water with my daughter! All fish were caught on the bison trout magnet with a white crappie nibble. Most fish were caught in 8-10 ft of water. Water temperature was 58 to 60 degrees.

I was a believer of the ester line and lightwire hooks made by litewirehooker, but never expected them to hold up to what they were put through lastnight.
