I have an older friend who’s birthday was this week, he turned the big 80 and he wanted to go catch some perch. We met at the Spring Bayou boat launch for day light armed with 100 crickets and 2 boxes of worms. Our first stop was in Te Loc fishing the cypress trees in the middle of the lake only catching a few keepers, then he tells me he got a tip from a buddy on a hot spot. He asked me if I know the way to old river on the other side of the complex, well ya so off we go. So I asked him were at on old river and he said in his ole coonazz accent da Bordelonville side , well Walter there’s about 3 or 4 miles of navigable water here on the left side. His buddies tip payed off the only stop we made was at one of the canals off the main channel that produced bass, sac a Lait, catfish, chicapin and some big bull brim. We both have a great time catching something on almost every cast weather it was a small one or a tree branch or as he called them a box fish. I teased him about the museum piece fiberglass rod and metal Johnson sprite push button reel. Boy dis pole caught more fish dan yu culd magin ha ha. Y’all gonna hate me my phone switched to video for most of the pictures and don’t know how to make a screen shot. Any way here’s birthday boy with a box fish.
