• Father's Day Weekend Report

I hope everyone had a great Father's Day weekend! I know I sure did. One of my favorite things to do is get my kids on the water with me. They are still young so our outings have to be planned for nice weather and we normally have to take a pantry's worth of snacks . With Sunday's weather forecast we moved our fishing trip up a day to Saturday. The weather was perfect with mostly overcast conditions and the fish cooperated. We mainly targeted structure jigging and casting and I set the kids up with a cork and minnow. Water temps were in the low 80s and the fish were aggressive. At the first stop, Brantlee caught her first ever (all by herself) on her little pink barbie rod! When that cork went down and she felt the tug she went to pieces in excitement. If we didn't catch another fish, the trip was made! As luck would have it, we weren't done there. We caught fish from nearly every stop and the girls had a blast, but I think I had more fun than they did!

Quick funny story...my oldest was casting her cork and minnow all on her own and I was trying to get her to cast closer to a dock we were fishing. She was being very conservative with her casts and staying a good 10 feet from the dock. She said, "I don't want to get it tangled up." I knew that was probably a little bit far for her to get a bite so I offered to make a cast for her. She agreed, and I proceeded to get all kinds of hung up on the dock railing LOL She said, "That's why I didn't cast closer Daddy!!!" I couldn't help but laugh as I took care of the mess I created

When we were done fishing, my wife and Weston (who just turned a year old) met us at the lake for some pontoon riding. Those festivities were short lived when the rain caught us. The kids thought that was fun too and Mama helped cover them up for the mad dash back to the dock

Sunday morning I decided to try a solo trip mid-lake on Murray. I should have known fishing in a Tropical Depression wasn't the brightest idea, but I figured I'd better go while I had the chance. The wind made fishing open water brush tough. I hung in there long enough to catch a decent mess and bailed before the major rain arrived. All in all, it was a great weekend and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Spending time on the water with my family is memories that I hope they cherish as much as I do. I love looking back through the pictures year after year. And, I hope I'm planting a seed in each of them that will result in life long fishing partners for me!
