• Got a decent start....

To a couple days of fishing, with my visiting brother-n-law, who introduced me to crappie fishing in the early 90's...things are certainly different in our approach=long-lining vs minnows & float, since them earlier days, but the enthusiasm to catch big Slabs still get's both of us in a way that only a double clinched fist can contain....Friday was much better wind wise & I believe we caught around 40 & 18 made the 11" mark including 1 a shake under 15" & a few 13-14" bruisers, was good to see the overall activity for April.
Saturday was a different story, had to work hard for them, as the wind built all day, was a bass tournament going on so the parking lot @ ramp was full w/grass overflow parking as well. Ironically, I caught a green carp ( in pic below ), that hasn't happened trolling this yr till now. Trolled in 3 ft waves with 5 fish in the box & decided to try the creek that produced Friday, but only pulled 2 fish, so back to the lake & tried an area I've done good in the past, but not so much this season, well it might have been the approaching storm that triggered them, but boy- howdy did the frenzy start w/multiple poles going off, could see the rain coming, however, w/no lightening present, we pressed our luck till the 1st drops came down, put on some rain ponchos & no sooner the wind gust hit w/hail & blinding down pour. Went to the shore to put on the life vest as the waves climbed to 6ft, was going to wait it out on shore, but appeared the front came through so fast it was beginning to slow to a steady rain, however, another nasty looking cloud was on the horizon, so we start to idle the boat back to the ramp, before opening up the motor in the river. We gave thanks to the Lord for a safe return & prayed for the on coming fire rescue that pulled into the parking lot as we were leaving, for those who may have not been as lucky as us. Spent Sunday licking our wounds, as another weather system kept us home. Well back @ it Tuesday-Slabfest, look forward to seeing the gang then.... peace out....
