• Beautiful day to be out on the water!!!!

Its been awhile since i have posted on here... haven't been able to get on the water unfortunately. so this weekend we made plans to go out all day Saturday and have a full day of fishing, sun, and good quality time with my fiance!

Well... Friday night the belt on my bronco decided to jump off a pulley and put a nice cut in my waterpump bypass hose. I was able to limp her home but barely! (no power steering, no alternator, and a steady loss of coolant) so Saturday morning consisted of making repairs to the Beast. By the time that was done and everything was gassed up and lunches prepared to take with us it was 1:00 when we got to the boat ramp at West Neck.

    Nice cut in the hose...

On to fishing: it was a BEAUTIFUL day yesterday! it was just a little bit cold when we cruised from one spot to the next but the sun would warm you right back up. I decided to do a little exploring and try to find new places for crappie so we went further up the creek to the Indian river rd bridge. the water depth was down about 2 feet lower than normal but I did find some deeper water back there! 7ft was the deepest and for that creek that's pretty deep. found some good underwater structure and proceeded to fish! NOTHING... what the heck? haha... we fished a couple more new spots with no crappie to be had and then went to our normal "holes" along the way i managed to break the shear pin in my trolling motor (like i said the water was really low today and we found lots of underwater obstacles!) we did manage to find some crappie. Nothing terribly too big 10-11 inches with SEVERAL youngsters! and the bluegill were very active too! I fished strictly by cast/retrieve jigs (1/32nd un painted jig with kalin's money being the big producer. But I also caught a couple on pink/chartreuse. tried other colors and weights but didn't get anything on them) oh ya I forgot to mention.. I GOT A NEW ROD/REEL! I went to bass pro and picked up a 7ft ultralight crappie max with a crappie max ultra light reel topped off with 5lb yellow powerpro. This thing is SWEET!!! My fiance used small minnows and she outfished me big time! haha... we decided to keep 6 crappie for the two of us for dinner that nice and she caught all but 1 of those. Gotta let her win sometimes!

Just a few pictures from the day...

    This was a beefy bluegill!

Amanda couldn't stop laughing over this! she had to take a picture and thought it was so funny! lol...

    My best catch!

After a fun day of fishing we settled down to a movie and a home cooked meal of crappie, mashed potatoes, corn and tater tots! it was delicious.... but then something happened? I dont know why or how but i had an asthmatic allergic reaction with fluid in my lungs and by throat closing up! never have had anything like this happen and have eaten fish all my life! and i have eaten this same meal of crappie several times!? Guess it will be catch and release for me for awhile?

Man, I hope you are feeling better. I had a similar incident many years ago, when you can't breath it is terrifying!

i REALLY enjoy your fishing story even after all the obstacles you had to overcome. you still found time to get you and your fiance out on the water. hate to hear about your allergic reaction and hope everything is back to normal for you. i love the colors of that speck. really nice color on it
