Yesterday the wind was howling out of the east again . Left my glasses in my truck and it was cold so I did not want to run back the the dock . I could see fish on livescope but with high pressure and clear skies most were on or close to wood and the bottom . It was hard for me to hold boat to use livescope on the fish but they were biting . Once the wind stopped it got tough . I saw fish leaving cover even in dingy water 10' deep . Once wind switched to the west and started blowing again they bit . I always hate windless days as they seem spooky . Wind can be your friend , direction is not as important except holding the boat .
One spot that used to always hold fish has changed . I used to always pull up and catch several . Now there are none to be seen on. livescope . Difference on this spot than the past is some one dumped more different cover on top of it . Pulled down about 50' or so on a vertical driven stake bed . The Crappie are there every time . They were on bottom but could be seen sitting there in the stake bed even in white caps . If I could hold long enough to present my jig I got bit . For awhile I saw more fish appear each pass . Not sure if they repositioned or swam into it . On sinking cover more is not always better .
One thing livescope has shown me just because your not catching fish on a piece of cover does not mean they are not there . I sometimes miss fish even with livescope . Part of it may be my poor vision or just angle I am looking . I look at a piece of cover from several angles and top to bottom . There are days when they shine like ornaments on a Christmas tree . Then days ones like yesterday tight and low . More than once I would have left a spot if I had not repositioned boat and saw them on livescope . I have stayed on a spot longer than I used to sometimes because I still can see fish .Before once bite slowed I left . Now I can see in real time and see how they are related to the cover . A big piece of cover may have all the fish in one spot you could have missed before .
