Tried a particular lake for the second time this spring on Sunday. Only have fished there a couple times last summer and a couple more times this winter ice fishing. Have heard reports of some nice Crappie in there but it is a rather large place and we have had trouble finding any. First trip there this spring we caught 1 male and that was it. We let him go.
Father's day we arrived there at 4:30am and started fishing right where we had caught that one Crappie before. Worked our way up the shoreline and I ended up catching 2 females both around 12 inches and full of eggs. Released them both. That was by 5:30am.
We fished until noon and only caught 1 other Crappie. A small male that we also released. Hopefully soon we will start figuring this place out. We did catch a lot of Small Mouth Bass and a lot of Redbreast Sunfish which kept us busy. We also caught a couple of small Northern Pike and a White Perch to bring home to eat.
Water temps were between 65 and 67 degrees in different parts of the lake. Caught my two Crappie on Bobby Garland Baby Shad Mo Glo Screamer. Seems to be a very good choice for a bait anywhere I fish. Also Northern Pike seem to really like the G-Sauce (garlic Slabsauce). Here are a couple pics.
