• Kansas Crappie Bonanza Video

Crappie fishing ranks high among favorite Kansas outdoors activities. Our state is blessed with good crappie fishing within easy reach of most residents. Crappies are found in large reservoirs, small public fishing waters, farm ponds and streams. They’re in nearly all urban waters where fishing is allowed. And they provide some of the best eating of all Kansas fish and game.

Crappie fishing is a popular springtime ritual when fish spawn in April and May. During this time, crappies are easy to catch
with inexpensive gear from the shoreline, and people of all ages can enjoy the action. But many have never caught a crappie, and Kansas Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism wants to help introduce this great pastime to new anglers this year.

A new video, Kansas Crappie Bonanza, will be released February 17 to show how anglers can catch crappies through all seasons in Kansas. This popular panfish, known for its springtime action, also provides good fishing through all months – even through winter ice.

The 25-minute production shows basic fishing strategies for each season, with lots of good tips by crappie guides and fishing experts on how to find and catch crappies at any time. Weather is discussed as a factor. And mostly, the video shows the fun of catching crappies throughout the year. It is entertaining as well as educational.

Produced and filmed by videographer and outdoorsman Gene Brehm with assistance from the KDWPT Fisheries Division Video Committee, Kansas Crappie Bonanza will help get you on the water for your share of this bountiful Kansas harvest. The video will viewable on the department website. Just check the KDWPT homepage for a link to the production. And then plan your own outing for this valuable Kansas resource.

Here's a preview of that video. The full video will be available on the KDWPT website starting on February 17th 2012.
