I was fortunate enough to spend the morning fishing with my wife who is a lot cooler than I am and more difficult to work around her schedule. Trolling crankbaits in open water was the name of the game which is the usual for our boat. The morning started off with 10 keepers within the first 90 minutes, but the bite soon died once the wind picked up and surface debris kept fouling our lines. We made a major change in location and grinded out another 6 keeper crappies with an assortment of random yellow and white bass, bluegill, short largemouth bass and a 16" sauger. The weather couldn't have been prettier. I did see my first jet skier of the year which is a sign of things to come.

There was no clear color preference, nor lures that were real standouts. We caught fish on PICOs, Arkies, Bandits, Bombers, and Berkley Flicker Shads. I will say that the PICO INT cranks may not have caught necessarily more fish, but the ones that ate the PICOs were larger 12"+ crappies. All but two crappies were females loaded with eggs. There were no easily-identifiable baitfish in their stomachs, but I did find scales, small fish bones and a tiny crawfish claw.So while there are nowhere near as fat as they have been in years past, they're finding something to eat.
