• Pre Huricane Santee Trip

My nephew came east for a visit from California last week. He and I used to fish quite often together back when he was a young fellow. Now he's a oil refinery manager and doing quite well for himself. I was honored when he emailed me requesting a fishing trip while he was in town for business and to see his parents. I certainly had a seat in the boat for him, so Thursday morning we set out on a mission to catch enough for a family gathering, and fish fry. The day started quite breezy, and the bite was slow. Around 11:00 am the winds laid down and the fish turned on. We were vertically jigging a variety of brush, both deep and shallow. Along with any grass and lilies we could find in the right water depth. Some really quality fish were caught in both our limits. Including 5 over two pounds. With big fish honors going to him, and pictured on top in the cooler. It weighed in at 2.5 pounds. It was also the last fish of the day, which made it it all the sweeter.

    One of the 2 pounders.

    The cooler shot.

    The filet shot.

And the "lets get ready to eat shot"
