A feller at Country Junction Store told us (biillbob inc) that he suspects the Asian carp are the problem with the crappie. Things have gone to pot since these critters moved in.
Usually this time of the year fish are spawning all around our area. However, the last three years has produced very little action. We usually catch good fish around our dock, but not the past few years. I saw a lot of large fish hanging near bottom in the West Sandy and we also spotted a dead Asian carp.
Some of the fish we caught had eggs, but their bellies were not swollen and the eggs were somewhat bloody. The males tails showed no signs of nesting. We caught a few dandy males.
We fished from West Sandy to Swamp Creek to New Hope and spots in between. We picked up a fish here and there, but had no major onslaught. When we caught a fish, we circled back and made another pass looking for stragglers. The fish seemed to like the 7 foot depth. The water temp was over 70 degrees. The first day we single poled the brush with limited results. On day two and three we pulled and pushed jigs and roadrunners with better results. We did a lot of riding.
The fish were stubborn but we still had a large time.
