Took the wife's grandpa to Talquin today in hopes of an all out assault on those fat girls sitting up shallow about to spawn......HA, WHAT WAS I THINKING???

So 2 weeks ago during the Crappie Masters Tournament we had them patterned out in front of Oklawaha Creek in 12-16 feet of water getting ready to go in the creek to spawn. Water was 55-59 degrees during my 4 days there two weeks ago. So of course, why wouldn't they have gone into the creek and shallow during my 2 weeks away. Water is 65 degrees so get busy ladies.

We made our way to Oklawaha Creek (boy scout) shortly after daylight. Not a boat in sight. Got the poles deployed and started our cruise to shallow(er) water. Lots of trash on the water. Made it farther back into the creek and finally doubled up on two nice fish, 1.5lb males. Thought it was about to be on FIRE! Shortly caught another one. THEN IT WENT ICE COLD. Trolled all over boyscout without another fish.

Made our way back down toward Polk Creek and found a large colony of boats trolling and spider rigging out in front of Lake Talquin Lodge/Harvey/Polk so we tried them while on our way to Polk. Still nothing. Finally caught our first fish since first thing that morning around 1pm. Worked our way back into the colony of boats and we did much better this afternoon. Probably caught over 30 fish from 2pm-5:30.

Caught them trolling slow and deep. Dark colors and LiteWire Hooks were the ticket, but they were picky and it wasn't the blue/black bite they were crushing two weeks ago.

Grandfather in law is usually who I go mullet fishing with. He isn't much for casting, trolling, or "sophisticated" techniques such as using 8 poles lol. He finally got the hang of casting out those spinning reels by the end of the day. Didn't take him long to figure out he had to let out more line to start catching them. All he talked about was how big these crappie are compared to what he catches anchored up at Eufaula.

If all goes as planned I'll be back to Talquin on Friday. Who knows where they will be then.

Very nice, you could have used a few of them slabs a few weeks ago at the crappie masters.
