I fished with my good buddy Chris for a few hours today. We got a late start and were blown all around the lake. What was supposed to be mainly a south wind, ended up being more of an east wind. Water temp ranged from 56 to 59! The crappie are definitely starting to get ready for the dance. We only caught 8 fish but some of them were good ones. We couldn't really figure out a pattern and were some what limited by the wind. As usual Chris out fished me but I'm OK with that. He is dang good crappie angler. If he can show me how to jig, he can show just about anyone. Like last year, the spawn is starting early. Hopefully work won't get in the way too much to chase them this spring.
Seeing pictures like that make me want to start getting my fishing lines switched out and the Southern Pro tackle box
out and sorted through. I have been fishing the popsicle stinger tail which is purple on top and pink underbelly with a chartreuse
tail for the last two years in muddy water and the crappie have really sucked them up. What were you guys using for bait? I am
going to try a few minnows this year, been a long time since I fished any live bait.
