• Deland Florida Crappie Masters Media Day - Slab comes in second with "one fish"!

I was invited to attend the Crappie Masters Tournament "Media Day" event being held here in Deland Florida on the St. Johns River. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. Billbob had left the day before but he was still there in spirit (see photo above)! I fished with Brad Meyer and Dave Pfoutz and we killed them!

We fished the river, moving from spot to spot at varying depths, spider rigging with double rigs tipped with minnows. The bite was slow but steady. We lost some very nice fish as well.

Brad and Dave were tons of fun, we had a great time. Thank you both so much for getting us on the fish.

Don Collins and Steve Chapman (of Fishing Florida Radio) were fishing nearby and took first place catching a 1lb 9oz Crappie.

Billbob attended the weigh in too. He seemed to really enjoy himself there.

We placed second with this Crappie Weighing 1lb 6.4oz

Brad's boat sported some real nice individually mounted trolling rod holders I thought I'd mention. Very sturdy, and high quality for sure. Check them out at Grizzly Jigs.

I'll certainly be at the weigh in on Saturday afternoon at Ed Stone Park to see what all is bought in.

Great job Ed, bet it was a great time fishing with the pros. Maybe it's time for CDC to have big murals on trailers and boats. Go big

Looks like a great time was had for sure! You need to get with Redge for your own Billbob cut out, that way he can just stand next to you and the pros. Congrats on second which is a lot better than a no fish day! Thanks for sharing!

The way I understand it, a few of the lakes up river have some salinity. The river flows north, goes out into the ocean at Jacksonville. I've heard there are salt water springs here that feed the river though too. But don't really think the tide has any impact at all this far down.
