• A coule of days at Crescent

I finally got a Kitchen Pass so I took my youngest brother with me to Crescent. Between work and life in general, we don't spend much time together, so when he told me he would be off work for week and wanted to go fishing I told him we'd head south and give it a try. We only fished about 3 hours on Monday afternoon but Jimbo got a taste of Crescent. His first fish was a 1 1/2 lber.

Vic and Eileen invited us over for supper on Monday night and they made us feel very welcome...The food was pretty good too
Tuesday, we spent all day on the boat. It was a little breezy early and turned into a very windy day by 10:00 or so. We drug chains plus a drift sock just to stay at the speed we wanted to be trolling at. The bite was slow but we managed a few fish in the wind. We decided to find some calmer water and Jimbo caught his first 2 lber. It weighed in at 2.02.He released it because Vic told him to We squeaked out a few more decent fish in the wind and by 3:00, the conditions changed to this:

And the fish just turned off completely!!! The water was like glass and we couldn't get a bite.

Wednesday morning was a little better. The fish seemed to bite a little better with "little" being the key word. I have never caught so many hand sized fish and smaller at Crescent than what we caught this week. Every now and then we would get a keeper fish but they were far and few between. Jimbo broke his record with this 2.33 lb fattie:

But he decided to let it go and give someone else the fun that he had catching her:

Jimbo was able to keep 27 good size eating fish, enough fish for a good fish fry.

Overall the bite was slow, but a heckuva lot better than it was in late November. Water temps are still around 72. Some real good fish are around but they are hard to find. Dark color jigs seemed to work best for us. No certain part of the lake seemed to be better than the other. We fished from Hurricane Point to the canal at Dead Lake and just found fish scattered here and there. The wind dictated where and how we could fish, but I'm getting used to that on Crescent. Looking forward to getting back in a couple of weeks and hoping for some cooler weather.

Enjoyed your report and pics. Was great to visit with you and meet Jim the other day and you can relay the message to Jim that the "mystery of what has gone wrong with Crescent" has not been solved yet. Since y'all left the weather has been really bad for fishing, cold and 15-20 ne winds every day. Even Vic has took several days off. The white-caps continue today with forecast of 10 tomorrow so maybe some of us locals will be able to get out tomorrow and try out the cooler and higher water level. Hope to see y'all soon.
