I got a chance to take my dad for his 82 birthday with his longtime good friend of the same age fishing yesterday. And boy do I have a new respect for fishing guides.
I've decided they really earn every dime they make taking people fishing. I didn't fish a lick, but I stayed busy taking fish off, untangling messes, and running the boat. They did their best to tell me stories that I've never heard before about their old exploits of hunting and fishing over the last 60 years or so, but they failed to tell one I haven't heard a dozen times.
It was a blast though and I was glad to share in another future story. But we had a great time caught a lot of fish and kept probably 50 or so but no real nice ones this trip.
They're still hitting it on Nimrod but it was a little slower, White and Awesome Pink was the ticket. Watching these experienced fishermen handle 3 or 4 poles a piece was a sight for sure. I thought surely I was going to lose at least one rod and reel at times but that never happened. Had to get a hook out of one of them but was about it for calamities. Watching them try and handle 3 or 4 fish on at a time was a comedy show for sure. It was indeed a pleasure repaying them somewhat for all they've done for me over the years.
