I’m like most of you out there; I waited a long time to make the jump to one of the high-end coolers. I did my research, read everything I could find, talked to lots of my friends and finally made the decision. I ended up picking a Yeti 75 quart Tundra.
I fish and hunt often and a heavy-duty cooler is a necessity. Whatever cooler I choose, it will get banged around a lot, whether I’m on the lake, in the woods, or tailgating. I could go on and on about how well made, tough, strong, solid, yada, yada, yada. My thing is it holds ice for weeks.
Security Locking
I’ve heard the many horror stories about coolers getting stolen or snatched off the back of boats and trucks. It’s hard for me to set $500 on the back of my truck and walk off. That’s unacceptable; I don’t leave the keys in my car or truck when I park. Surely I’m not going to leave something that valuable unlocked.
The Security Cable Lock & Bracket protects my investment from them boys on the street that want something for nothing. One thing I do know is, you can’t stop a real thief; however a petty thief is not going to spend time trying to steal something that securely locked down.
This high strength carbon steel lock is designed to fit into the Yeti’s tie-down slots. The cable is 6ft long allowing you to thread it through any anchors within the bed of your pickup.
There’s people out there that like to help themselves to my cold refreshments, fish and wild game; the cable lock will put an end to this madness. That’s worth the costs in my book.
Sure you could go out and buy a bicycle cable lock; the bike cable is just too thin of a cable for me to risk losing my cooler. I would rather have a product designed strictly for securing my cooler.
Tie-Down Kit
The Tie-Down Kit is another accessory I’ve come to enjoy. I use it in my boat for securing my cooler to the boat. I’m so glad Yeti coolers float if you know what I mean. The Tie-Down Kit eliminates coolers flying around dangerously in your boat. The Tie-Down keeps your cooler in place at any speed.
The cooler is held down by low profile deck plates. The straps are 4.5 feet long and they fit all coolers. I suggest tie-downs for trucks with a topper. Based on some of the reviews, I’ve heard of trucks flipping upside down and the cooler staying locked in place.
Seat Cushion
All boaters agree that space is premium inside your vessel. Why not make your cooler serve two purposes, fill two functions. With the 2” or 3” seat cushion it can server as a cooler and a comfortable seat.
Simply screw the studs into the cooler lid and snap the cushion in place. No need and worrying about rust because everything is stainless steel. The UV marine vinyl fabric comes in white for the fisherman or camo for the hunter.
I agree with the reviews that say it’s very cool, comfortable and easy to install.
Rod Holster
Another double duty, multi-purpose accessory is the vertically mounted Rod Holster. I use mine for hands-free rod access when I’m doing other things on the boat. I can place my spinning or casting rods in the holster and I’m ready in an instant. I also use it as a flag holder when I’m tailgating or as a net holder when fishing.
It comes with a heavy-duty polypropylene tube that’s attached to a stainless steel bracket. It slides securely into the tie-down slot and it’s completely out of the way of the lid.
The SeaDek
I enjoy fishing from a casting deck. It makes it easy to see hotspots underwater. Yeti makes a durable, slip-resistant SeaDek that provides excellent traction for a casting platform. It attaches permanently to the Yeti lid. The SeaDek puts me high enough to see a lot further down into the water than my regular boat deck.
I’ve seen times when being 2 feet higher made all the difference between seeing those bass or bluegill beds. Being able to hit those dark spots conserves my casts and makes me a lot more productive.
Conclusion
So there you have it; when choosing a high-end cooler don’t just look at the price. Look at what convenient accessories are designed for your particular brand. If they don’t offer the ones I mentioned above, you need to consider a Yeti. Remember this, you only have to buy a high-end cooler one time, make sure you buy one from a company that’s going to be in business when you need parts and accessories. One thing for sure, Yeti will be there for a long, long time.
