• The adventures of Chickenguy and Birdy continue.

In typical chickenguy fashion he calls me up with some wild hair idea on Friday evening and states he thinks it would be a great idea to make a 3 hour journey to Kinkaid lake to go slab catchin Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Now either of us have ever been on the lake been he keeps sayin "ah heck we gonna catch em, cant be that hard". It has been a busy summer for the both of us and we havent got to fish much so I figured a gas wastin trip wouldn't be such a bad idea, so I gave in a said lets giver a go.

We got on the water about 630 saturday afternoon and couldn't believe the amount of pleasure boaters out there, especially the amount the don't give a hoot about fishing boats! We started off side scanning some channel banks and started marking stumps, trees, and brush piles but all we had to show for it was a green carp and a trophy rock bass. Finally went by a stump and boy was it loaded up....with 5 inchers! I said boy we drove 3 hours to catch dinks huh?? Made our way back out to another area and did some more scanning and found a group of stumps and in about half an hour we put 20 nice black crappie in the boat. As dark set in we side scanned all the way back to the ramp and got off about 10 o clock.

Next morning we thought we were going to whack em and were anxious to get back to where we found them the evening before. As we pulled up to the spot and threw the buoy it didnt take long to realize them fish were gone! Back to search mode it was. We ran lots of waypoints we marked the evening before and only had 6 nice ones to show for it. Finally about 11am we came across a few stumps on a steep drop just out from some grass as well as a tree coming out and a few standing trees in about a 300 yard stretch of bank and put 21 more keepers in the boat in about an hour and several dandies. We were more than happy with the results. I cant stress enough how important electronics are, especially on unfamiliar lakes. We scanned for probably 5 hours and feel confident we wouldn't have got nearly the fish we did if it wasn't for the Humminbird graphs! About 1230 we decided to finish the trip off with some kinkaid bluff jumpin and quickly realized that bluff is heck of a lot taller than it looks from the water!! Heres some pics.. enjoy all!

Chickenguy thinking this might not have been the best idea..

Outstanding report. I hope I can figure out my SI and find structure / fish in a decent amount of time. I have only been on the water twice with it and found one good location. The rest of the time searching. I just need more time playing with the SI tool.
