• Never give up - I had a very eventful 2014 crappie masters classic

Thanks partner and the best wife ever. Due to the circumstances I had a very eventful 2014 crappie masters classic.

My wife is due with our first child any day now and she allowed me to fish the classic under 2 circumstance, 1. I come home every night after fishing 2. I keep my phone on ring and in my pocket at all times! . It's a 2.5 hr drive from the home to the fishing waters so pre fishing was minimal but productive.

On day one of tournament we STRUGGLED! The fish quit biting mid morning with all the boat pressure and we needed 3 more fish to get our 7. We picked up 1 fish about every two hours. At 2:40 we had 20 minutes to go and only had 6 little fish.

I told my partner we needed to put all the poles up and run to the south end of the lake to try and get a bite from a brush top we had found the day before. My partner trusted me and pulled everything in and rushed to our brush top. We arrived with 12 minutes to go.

I ran the Terrova by remote as we dissected the brush. There seemed to be nothing there and as I swam my jig away from the top I got the best most rewarding thump of my life. I set the hook and partner netted the nice speck. I wish someone had a video of the excitement we had at that point. We high fived, hugged, shouted, the whole 9 yards! Although our little 7 fish stringer was not big it was almost like a milestone accomplishment to get the last fish. We weighed in at 7.91 lbs to put us in around 70th place.

On day 2 I had the mindset of go big or go home. I went in blind to a brand new lake and totally different technique. We pushed 8 jig poles thru the thickest coffee weeds and willow tops we could find. Right off the bat we started picking up some big specks. At the end of the day we weighed the biggest sack of fish for day 2 and had climbed all the way up into 7th place.

Thanks partner for sticking with me and never giving up.

Nice come-back!Some days it is hard to keep on keeping on when the fish just seem to not be anywhere near your hook......But I would much rather be bored in a boat than bored on land! Congratulations on the new baby.
