• Electrofishing for Blue Cats - Craig Johnson

Last week I did some electrofishing for blue cats here on El Dorado Reservoir. Wasn't really prepared for capturing video footage so had to settle for using the video mode on my point and shoot digital camera but did manage to capture things well enough to show folks a good number of blue catfish brought to the top with the shocker boat. Blue cats are still relatively new to the reservoir first stocked in 2004. They are doing quite well and numbers and sizes continue to increase. Again, not crappie but thought you might enjoy the fishy content.

Craig is a Biologist with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, do not try this at home! Thank you for sharing this with us Craig.

I guess that's one way to make it easy to get some cats!

You might say that the cats got a charge out of it.

      Bt,

Yes, we (KDWPT) utilize electrofishing to sample fish in Kansas waters. It is NOT a legal method of take for obvious reasons. Fish are collected, weighed, and measured and then released back in to the lake.
