• Fun Day at the Lake

Invited some buddies up to the lake this weekend for some fellowship, fun, food, and fishing. One buddy that fished with my uncle was home for a few weeks from West Point Military Academy and wanted to eat and catch some fish. I had another buddy with me that had not been crappie fishing in several years. The pressure was on because I forgot to bring fish out the freezer in case we needed them. Surprisingly everyone popped up Saturday morning and was ready to go. We decided to have a 2 boat ultimate one pole challenge. My uncle and I split up to be the boat driver for each boat since we knew where the brush was. We had lines in the water by 7 am. I was worried that the killer action we had been having would slow with the warmer water temps. It started out a little slower after the first 2 hrs we had around 10 fish, my partner was struggling with the finesse method we were using. At this time we gained another person in our boat, my buddy's dad who was fishing with Bob wanted to join in on the action. They protested being that his dad makes a living fishing we said it was fair bc my partner at the time struggled for most of the day. We then continued fishing and found them, we pulled up to one pile and hit the mother load. We fished on til about 11:15 and called it quits cause we had enough for supper and the hot weather was getting to some of our fish. We left them biting and FINALLY got Jeremy (the buddy that was with me) a crappie before we left. He laughed saying "I barely stood a chance with Roland (me) in the boat and then we add someone that makes a living fishing and I really don't stand a chance." I will say that he was a very good net man and a good sport about it. Anyways we weighed our fish for bragging rights to the ultimate one pole challenge and we had around 25 pounds. My uncle's boat had 19 pounds as a total catch. I hate I didn't weigh the big fish cause looking at the pics it may have been bigger than I first thought but I would say it was close to 2 pounds. The action was not as hot as the past few weeks as far as numbers but it was still pretty good once we discovered the fish were hugging the bottom. Did not get a total count of the number of fish but I would say we kept around 60-65 fish between the 2 boats. Fish were caught on fish stalker slab tail jigs tipped with a tuffy minnow until we ran out of minnows then we used just jigs. We cleaned them and fried them up that night.
