The Buckeye Crappie Challenge Tournament Series held its first crappie fishing tournament of the year on Saturday, April 20, at Buckeye Lake. Seventeen teams braved the cold and wind. With the drastic temperature drop, no one was sure how the bite would be affected. Some of the teams found fish and turned in impressive weights given the conditions, averaging just under a pound per fish. Kerry August, left, and Scott Sattler, both of Celina won it all with an eight-fish limit weighing 7.39 pounds. They also landed the biggest fish of the day at 1.12 pounds. They took home $534, plus their big fish winnings. The circuit has six more tournaments this season including events at Paint Creek and Deer Creek. Courtesy photo.
