In my opinion, Shad or Catalpa worms are the best.

I was at the beach all last week....and a couple of evenings my granddaughter and I was catching those sand fleas...I was wondering if anyone ever used those for catfish....it seems like they would work pretty good.

You need to use stuff that stinks for catfish. I heard of some people that let stuff rot in a bucket for a week or so. It smells but they catch big fish.

WD40 probably helps. I guess its the oil. Maybe some motor oil would work better and stick better to the bait. Motor oil is thicker than WD40. I wonder if some grease you use in a grease gun would be even better? Maybe I will try it one weekend and report back.

Please dont pour motor oil or lubricants of any kind into our lakes and streams. Not only is it illegal but horrible for the environment. If you feel like some sort of oil will help in your situation, i suggest buying a bottle of Menhaden Oil. A capful is enough and its the strongest smelling attractant you can use. 100 percent natural Shad Oil. You cant go wrong. I've used it before with much success although, sometimes you dont need anything but a bream. Google "menhaden oil" or "shad oil" I promise it will be 100 times more effective than motor oil and 100 percent less harmful to the fish that swim in the water you're fishing.

From my trapping days, I use to make my own shad oil, or fish oil. You need a strong stomach but it is worth the effort. I have made it and used if to attract catfish, works very well, instead of using sour grain. Pack as many shad into a gallon glass jar with a good lid, you can use any kind of fish. Put a small hole in the center of the lid and bury the jar in the yard for one month. It does not make a lot of oil so do several jars. You can skim the oil off the top. Do not throw the rest of the liquid away it works good to attract fish. just pour some in the water where you will be fishing.
