I have to say Shad or Catalpa worms. A lot of other things work and some better than others at certain times.

Didnt tell anybody about this until I tried it. I caught fish from eating size up to 9 lbs. in 2 or 3 trips. Take boneless chicken and put a layer of cut up bait sized chicken chunks in a small bowl, layer with banana/strawberry jello powder, more chicken, more powder, more chicken, more powder. Refridgerate until the next day and take fishing. This turns the chicken slap red and it stays on the meat a long time in the water. Got this from a catfisherman on GON and it works.

Other than that taber worms, shrimp, bream heads, cut herring. I havent got where I can catch shad with my net yet but figure from all the replies everywhere that's a great cutbait too.

I like cut bait (bream), or crappie jig tipped with a strip of cut bait.
