The lines are about six foot long tied to a bush with a sinker on them and a slip knot tied to keep bait just under the top of the water. when the cat takes the bait and runs the slip knot is released and the cat has full length of line and that usually sets the hook.

I use#36 Nylon twisted line. They are tied on bush limbs in the river and hang straight down and just 6 to 8 feet long.Doe s not interfere with boat traffic. But in a 3 day span I have yet to see another boat on this part of the river.

I'll have to try the slip knot idea.

Reason I asked is because we set about 8 limb lines on the verdigris using perch for bait and didn't catch any. Left them for about 3 hours and most still had bait
It's about 20 foot deep in the area and we set them about 2 foot.

Cats bite better at night we set out at dusk and check them at sun rise.
