    Nice catch Tim.
    Just a question in general.
Cleaning out the freezer today, I found two bags of raw shrimp that is freezer burned.
I've used shrimp in the past on channels with good success, never when targeting blues.
Tried live crawdads on the jugs with zero success.
    Never shrimp.
    You?

Tim - Those are some nice fish, I am curious about the shrimp too. A retired ODWC fisheries staff member has always said that a blue cat goes to bed at night with a shad for a snack. In the morning, he has a shad for breakfast........... you get the point. I have used garlic impregnated hotdogs on jug lines with good success when shad were not available. This is why I am interested in the corn meal coating of the shad. I just have to take some time to harvest some shad and try the corn meal/ freezing method. I can use them drifting a couple of lakes that I dont have to hassle with netting shad before I begin to drift. My drifting in the past has been with large chunks of congealed beef blood. This worked well. I will give you a call in a day or so.

Dennis I use a lot of shrimp in May slip corking the rocks and have caught a ton of fish on it. Mainly channel cats. I have never tried them on jug lines. Right now with fish coming off the nest, not sure it would matter what you used. I would be concerned about the turtles. So many shad right now never thought about using shrimp. I caught 17 blues yesterday drifting 25 FOW up to 10 lbs in 4 hours. I did try the garlic hotdogs last year soaked n strawberry pop just to see how it worked. Caught a bunch of fish but nothing over 10 to 12 lbs. I will say I'm catching blues this year 3 to 1 on the double hook rig drifting. Would be curious to know how the shrimp worked on jug lines. With so many 2 to 4 lb blues, I'm afraid you couldn't keep them off your lines.

Here I am fishing the closest lake to my house all summer long and only catching one catfish all summer long. Holy cow !!! I'm heading to Kaw this weekend. I've never fished it before, can you fellas offer any advise on where I can catch some shad. At my lake it's up in shallow coves in 10 fow. I assume the same goes for Kaw but i don't know where those shallow coves are?

I got a boat and and new fancy fish finder but a general area where the shad could be found would be amazing? Any additional areas that one might find some big blues would be awesome but I understand if you don't want to share. I only catch and release, so I won't be pulling from your freezer.

    Thanks in advance.

Okie405 if I was gonna drive this far, I would keep some fish. As far as shad, they are everywhere. Coon Creek ramp is un usable due to low water levels so we have been using Sarge Creek ramp. There is a ton of shad around the ramp early and late and really all over the lake. Fished Kaw for over 30 years and never seen so many shad. Lake is really muddy now and more rain on the way. Any kind of rod and reel fishing has been tough the last couple of weeks but they are doing well on jug lines. If I were you I would watch the weather forecast before I made trip. If you do, I would drift the flats around Coon Creek and north of Washunga Bridge. Wind may be a factor also. It has kept us off the lake for several days. Good luck
