just fix up a rod for this, going to give it a try next week while crappie fishing. mounted a rod holder off to side just for the rod.
Just checking to see if anyone does this? I've always been told that where crappie are catfish will be too. I've never thought to drop a rod with some cut bait or anything below the crappie to see if anything pics up.
I thought about giving it a shot, can't hurt to have another hook in the water....
Any thoughts?

I was fishing a Trout Magnet last weekend and caught more channel cats than I did bass/bluegill/crappie combined. I like to fish baits that appeal to more than one species.
Heck yes, if you are bobber fishing, drop some stink bait on the bottom.

I have caught several catfish on a jig while crappie fishing. Fun on that light action rod
Last time I went crappie fishing, the catfish were going crazy. They were hitting the jigs I was trolling with and I even ran into a guy who was bass fishing and he caught 4 large catfish on a rattle trap. But it was the day of the full moon and the catfish were jumping like bass. They were all over the place. One hit a jig and I couldn't even get it up to the boat, suddenly it went slack and it straightened the the hook! Didn't catch any crappie, but found big cats.
I fish for them all the time wile crappie fish, the biggest i ever caught was while crappie fishing, i used cut bait and fished the bottom, Works.
