for channel cats use chicken liver or cut bait . flatheads use live brem if the brem die the cats will eat them . put the line as deep as the top river ledge or just above a sand flat .

TKS- I normally use bream but it so hot right now it would be miserable trying to catch some.I was wondering how some shrimp i could buy at the grocery store might work.

Raw shrimp works great for channels. Sometimes I will take a tub of chicken livers and soak the shrimp in the blood in the container, seems to always put a few in my boat.

I have been catching fish lately on hotdogs marinated in garlic. I use the minced kind you buy at the store.

Curious why I didn't see Shad mentioned anywhere here. I throw a cast net early in the AM or late at night when its dark around some lights and you can get hundreds in 2 or 3 casts. We slaughter the blues on live and dead shad. sometimes whole, sometimes cut.

I do use shad late summer early fall. They seem to be more plentiful then and larger at those times of the year where i fish. And they are a great bait.
