I love jug fishing. We use swim noodles. A lot of times we toss them out at dark and check them 1 or 2 times a night and pick them up the next morning. Jug lakes mostly if are in a river with current then we don't leave them for very long
I have jug fished for years and love it.Grandkids love to go with me cause its easy and a fun day fishing.I also use the pool noodles and braided line i buy at wallyworld.Like to use the circle hooks.I use a cheap d-ring or caribeener to adjust the length of line depending on where im fishing.I also find that hot dogs are my best bait but still like to use cut bait sometimes.

nothing beats time on the water
Anyone use 3 Liter Soda bottles with Glowsticks in them and the line tied to the neck of the bottle? It saves Alot of spotlight run time. Those are some sweet jugs, ill leave it to the pros.

I jug fish quite frequently. I use pool noodles with 3/4 inc pvc. I don't put weights in mine because on my home lake I use 4 inch shiners for bait. The lake is only 12 miles from home so I put the noodles out in the evening and go back and check them in the morning. I have caught several large crappie and some flatheads on them using large shiners for bait. I only make my lines about as long as my arm because the lake has so many stumps that I often have to reach down and untangle fish or pull the hook from a stump.
We here on highrock lake NC use 2 liter bottles and clear milk jugs we have used glow sticks but is a costly form of it when you have 15+ jugs hook depth 3-5 feet depending on the depth of the shad schools at the time. we also spray paint half the jug orange or green. If you have shad in your lake i suggest cut shad for the best result most we have had is 67 cats and biggest is 43 pounds.
....I dream in Lures and Code....My bass hear my Voice, they know who I am and follow me.
I'm ready to go this Spring. Camping, trolling, and some jug fishing with my boys!

Willie thats a plan for sure and end the day with a big ol campfire
my family and i started jugg"n last year we had a blast we started with 2 liter bottles but now have switched over to the swim noodles also we have been making them over the winter and ready to try them out this spring
Made up a dozen or so noodle jugs and used them for the second time this past May on Toledo Bend. Sure worked great and they definitely added some excitement to the trip. Like one mentioned, it doesn't take a big fish to pull one down. Caught some really nice 2-5 lb channels and blues, but a 10 lb blue kept us busy for about 20 minutes of the 'up & down' thing all over a cove. Now, the 32 lb flathead was more like over an hour and half...get kinda close to the jug, but that dude could either sense or hear the boat drift up to it. Left him alone after about 30 minutes of trying and came back about every 30 minutes. He must have finally sulled some and we grabbed the jug...it's amazing how they get that EXTRA energy to pull even harder then.
Now, I have added 3-4 extra jugs on each of my singles for adding buoyancy...maybe that'll help out some.
Oh, recreational anglers MUST HAVE white jugs and commercial anglers MUST HAVE orange jugs. No exceptions on this requlation for freshwater impoundments. They must contain your name, address and date it was set. They must be updated every 30 days.
Looking to make a few more. They'll keep you busy when the catfish are biting, especially when they bite all day long, or at least I have a couple pretty good spots that I can catch channels and blues all day.
Jug fishing is illegal here, along with trot lines and yo-yos. Rod and reel only, and you have to be in attendance at all times.
Don't worry, catch crappie.
