I'm not too sure about records and such due to the fact many sites have conflicting weights and information, nor have I ever seen a 4# crappie come out of Clearlake, I would be willing to bet money (if I didn't spend it all on fishing) that there are more than one 4 pound crappie in this lake. I know for a fact, from experience, that you can catch 40+ and have only about 25% of those be smaller than 2.5 pounds and 15% be 3#+. There are slabbers in here....bass and kitties too. The abundance of bait fish is just phenomenal the past years and the game fish are finding them downright splendid! My boyfriend Underdog and I spend quite a bit of time gettin' our slab fix here as we are only a short trip away. We stay at a place called Indian Beach Resort in Clearlake Oaks. The fishing from there is fantastic the majority of the time and the docks are just right for action day and night. RIght now the two hotspots are Kono Tayee and Shag Rock, but we are boatless for now so we stick to the docks. We have met people from all over (had a blast with most of them too!) who are just amazed at the size of the crappie here. From what I gather lakes in the mid west or back east just don't have large crappie...to us they are all fun...although hookin' into a fattie is just the icing on it all.....k....'nuff blabbin', more eye candy...lol. Each and every one caught on a Fin-S Shad minnow jig in ice or albino/ice....although chartreuse and live minnows will getcha a limit as well. For the most part we are all about the C&R, but don't let it fool you...there has been a few breaded fillets in the pan before. Lol... you should see the look on peoples faces when you nail a 3#er, give it a peck, snap a pic and toss it back. No matter what we are official Crappaholics. Hope there's not a cure! Take care all...and much crappie luck to you and yours in the coming new year!

Hopefully a video of the threadfin insanity in early November...
Sorry about the jumbleness of the images and size....I'm a dunce... Take care all!

That is a nice report and great looking pix. There is excellent Crappie fishing here in Florida, but not the size you are talking about. Very hard to find many above or in the 2 1/2 Lb. range. Wished I could fish Clearlake for awhile, might find my trophy fish there. Congrats on your catch.

Speak for your part of Fla! We have plenty of 2.5 crappie at Talquin and Seminole ain`t to bad! Also Lake Monroe has 2.5 plus crappie.

Don't know if I can post this here so moderators (robbor?) feel free to delete if not...if anyone ever was looking to get specific information for Clearlake, CA fishing, a great site (best in my opinion, not that it counts for much :p ) is catfished.com. It has weekly fishing reports and a forum that is very active and informative. Hope everyone got all they wanted for Christmas and is having a great holiday season!***CHEERS TO 2008!!***

    Default Moderator???

Im not a moderator, when I requested the Ca board, they tried to hornswagle me into it:D . Sometimes I dont visit for months. Ive fished by clear lake and the fishing was VERY good. Im planning on either going back up or to the delta in spring. My boat is stored about an hour from clear lake though. Im going up to visit her tomarrow with a brand new footpedal.
THANK YOU CRAPPIE.COM for our we little Ca board!!!

Lol...me thinks you've been hornswaggled then, because you're listed as the moderator for this forum:p I've never fished the Delta, but hear it's great for bassin'. Sounds like if you are going to be that close to the lake you have time for a cast or two...lol. Fishing's still decent from what I gather...we're going to try and head back up there mid January. Can't wait too long or the withdrawals kick in and it's not a pretty sight.:D

    Default clear lake crappie

I found this pic on gloomis's site:
This 3 pound, 18 inch long Crappie was caught by Peter Cook of, Los Gatos, California, on Clear Lake (California). He was using his SJR722 IMX 1 piece rod and a four inch plastic worm. Great catch!

    Very healthy looking crappie!!!
