Default Any DVL crappie guys out there?

Is there anyone that has fished Diamond Valley Lake in SoCal? It's deep and it's clear...I'm getting my butt kicked trying to get on some crappie. From what I've heard and from what little information I've been able to dig up the crappie there are huge. Huge only if you are able to get on some. There are very few crappie fisherman out there from what I've seen. Everyone is either bass fishing with the occasional stripper/catfish/trout fisherman. Anyway, looking for any stories or tips. I'm using 4 lb fluorocarbon and jigs in all colors and types. I've even used crickets and meal worms. No crappie!

I am in the process of moving to Menifee in So Cal. I am hoping to fish DVL. Any information on crappie or gills would be greatly appreciated.

I've never caught a crappie at dvl less than 14 inches. So yea they do get big, but all the lakes in the area have large crappie. They spawn pretty early at this lake and are a hassle to find. Try perris, 15-16 inch is the avg in the marina

Are you finding them w/your electronics and just not catching them? Or not finding them at all? Just curious, thanks.

Is replying to my post nearly a year later wrong? I think it is! Sorry for not checking Redy2Fish! I am able to find fish off the dams on my Garmin. From what I can tell they are perch but I'm sure crappie are mixed in. I've done about as much research as I can and from what I can tell a super-sensitive 7 ft rod with 2 lb test and a 1/32 jig is needed. That's crazy! One guy was talking about how the bite is so subtle that most won't even know they've missed a fish. I'll give it a try but it seems extremely difficult. I would imagine with a setup like that you could only fish in completely windless conditions.

I'll give it a try then....just power through the hard times. I guess that's what fishing is all about. I really don't care if I get skunked or not. I mean sure, I love to catch fish but I really enjoy getting out on the water. There was a fishing show in the 80's in Texas that the host would always say "Don't measure your pleasure in pounds and ounces" so I've taken that approach ever since. I'll hit the lake pretty hard and get back to anyone interested.
