I prop mine open so they can dry out when I am done using them. Otherwise I would use a biodegradable cleaner and make sure I flushed it good before I put fish back in it
What do you do to keep your live wells clean? I have been crappie fishing three or four times in the last few weeks. I noticed yesterday that they were looking scummy. I opened them this morning and the smell would gag a maggot.
My live wells are seldom used so rarely opened. The mess was quite a surprise. Any tips?

I use Clorox gel toilet cleaner about once a month.
Flush with water well.
Always leave them open to dry out and drain.

I bought a firm bristle toilet bowl brush at the Dollar Tree that works great. With the valve open, I rinse it out, drain, close the valve, then put in clean water from the garden hose, some Dawn, a little bleach, and scrub a dub dub. Open valve, rinse out, you are done.
I saw this Pro on Youtube clean His in a similar manner, works for me.
